Travel team basketball is considered a training ground for the school teams, the next level.  Due to the competitive nature of the leagues we play in, a player will be selected based on current or potential skill level versus his/her peers as well as the selection committee's determination of what the team's needs will be.  Whereas the town/recreational program is for players of all skill levels and has minimum playing time rules, the travel program is for those players who have strong athletic ability and/or strong basketball abilities.  The HTAA Basketball President and the Head of the Travel Program reserve the right to determine the appropriate number of teams fielded per grade and the number of players selected per team.  Not all players trying out are guaranteed a spot on a travel team.  Players will be selected by a selection committee consisting of that team’s coaches (may be pre-selected or a potential pool) and other independent individuals who are not associated with the team.  Players must participate in at least one of two tryout sessions.

For the past few years our 5th, 6th, and 7th grade boys travel teams have competed in the South Jersey Basketball League (www.sjbball.com) , playing a 16 game regular season schedule (games begin the first weekend in December).  Our 4th and 8th grade boys play in the Camden County Basketball League (www.ccbball.com), playing a 12 game regular season schedule (games usually begin in mid December).  Like the 4th and 8th grade boys, our girls teams compete in the CCBL.

Commitment: Up to three (3) practices will be held per week on weeknights/weekends depending on gym availability.  7^th and 8^th grade teams will practice sparingly due to school team commitments of most players whereas 4^th, 5^th, and 6^th grade teams will practice more often.  For more information regarding the travel program, email Jim Brown, Travel Teams Director at fortyfours@comcast.net or Andy Butrica, HTAA Basketball President, at awbutrica@aol.com
